Who Farted? St Vincent and Ringo Starr talk van flatulence in Dave Grohl's new touring documentary

Dave Grohl's new documentary What Drives Us - premieres today (4/30) on Amazon Prime.  Dave has called the project a ?“love letter to every musician that has ever jumped in an old van with their friends and left it all behind for the simple reward of playing music”.

The movie takes a look into the non-glamorous side of rock star life - that includes living most of your life in a van - driving from town to town playing shows ... and in those old beater vans - life happens ... especially after say - a night of PBRs and burritos ..

Check out this clip of Beatles drummer Ringo Starr, St. Vincent, and  AC/DC singer Brian Johnson discussing those uncomfortable moments

Dave also said of the project:

“What started as a project to pull back the curtain on the DIY logistics of stuffing all of your friends and equipment into a small space for months on end eventually turned into an exploration of,  Why? What drives us?’ ”

Have Coldplay Fans Deciphered 'Alien Radio' Clues - Will Band Be Dropping New Music In May?

Well ... we've all had some extra time on our hands ... bands and fans alike - and it seems like Coldplay decided to send fans some cryptic clues on new music - and Coldplay fans were up for solving the case ...

The case started on April 18, when a Twitter account for a website called Alien Radio FM shared its first post which simply read “Transmission incoming. Standby”

In the following days - it began  posting images and videos captioned with coordinates from around the world, always linking to the alienradio.fm website.

Now here is where the Coldplay sleuths got their detective on - they noticed the account is listed as the band's account on their website after they had been retweeting  posts.

Cryptic posters and billboards have popped up around the word  - including on buildings in New York and at soccer games in South America.

While this seems like an elaborately vague marketing plan - Coldplay fans think they have cracked the case

The theory: we will be getting a new Coldplay single called “Higher Power” on May 7. They allege the song will contain the lyrics :

“This joy is electric/ And you’re circuiting through/ I’m so happy that I’m alive/ At the same time as you.”

They also deduct that the single will be included on an album called Alien Radio.

Lana Del Rey reveals plans to release her third album of 2021 - 'Blue Banisters' - on July 4

Lana Del Rey has taken to social media to announce that she'll release an album called Blue Banisters on July 4 ...

If true to her word  - this would be her third release of 2021 - already having released one album this year, Chemtrails Over the Country Club, and promising another album - Rock Candy Sweet - to be released in June.

There is reason to question if  Blue Banisters is just a new title for Rock Candy Sweet - as both announcements had the same artwork ... time will tell with LDR

Radiohead, Foo Fighters, Phoebe Bridgers and More Design Bikes for Charity Benefitting Furloughed Live Music Workers

Even with the roll out of concerts in 2021 - the need to help those in the live music industry who remain out of work is huge.

This week - Brompton Bikes, makers of the iconic folding bike, announced that they have joined forces with a group of  artists, bands and labels to design 13 one of a kind bikes that will be sold in a live auction to raise money for Crew Nation - a global relief fund for live music crews massively impacted by COVID-19.  The auction goes live HERE May 28th.

Watch SHAED perform "Part Time Psycho" and "Trampoline" in singer Chelsea Lee's grandparents' back yard

It's hard to believe that its been over two years since SHAED gave that amazing Private Artist Showcase performance at Rams Head On Stage.

One of our favorite local bands has been plenty busy since then - but they never were able to put out a proper album  ... until now  - the band will release their debut record - High Dive on May 14

The album will include some familiar tracks - like Trampoline and No Other Way - and also the new single- Part Time Psycho.

To promote the new record - the band set up their gear in singer Chelsea Lee's grandparent's backyard and performed Part Time Psycho and Trampoline  ... We love that the video quality suggests that maybe her grandparents filmed it on an old VHS camcorder <3

Foo Fighters drop a trippy new animated video for Chasing Birds on 4/20 [WATCH]

Why is it that bad trips almost always seem to happen in the desert?

That's what happens to the Foo Fighters in the psychedelic new video for their song Chasing Birds - released unironically 4/20 of course.

The video starts with Dave waking up in alone in a desert and encountering  rainbows, monsters, and of course - some anthropomorphic cacti ... the rest of the band soon joins him for a trip that would make Alice embrace a Jabberwocky.

Foo Fighters - Chasing Birds (Official Video)

If you're having a hard time keeping up with Dave this week - here's a recap - they rescheduled their European tour dates, and announced a couple of film projects, including the touring documentary What Drives Us and  the show with his mother - From Cradle to Stage. Oh yeah - He also has a new memoir on the way.

The Wroomba - a Weezer inspired Roomba is 'much better at cleaning than human Rivers [Cuomo]'

Are you one of the 90% of humans who have dreamed of Weezer cleaning their house?

Until yesterday - it may have seemed like a dream  - but now the group is making dreams come true  announcing on Monday (April 19) that they've  teamed up with iRobot to create their own version of the autonomous cleaner, Roomba - called the Wroomba (the W is silent)

The reviews (although they seem partial for this bad boy are impressive - with someone who goes by MyNameisJonas1994 saying: "Like having Weezer clean your home, but it actually gets clean," and someone named Pat Wilson   says, "So much better at cleaning than human Rivers [Cuomo]."

The band is giving five lucky fans to win an iRobot Wroomba robot vacuum with a Weezer skin (that looks like a CD)  - enter HERE.

Watch the trailer for Dave and Virginia Grohl's new TV series 'From Cradle to Stage'

Ok - we get it - Dave Grohl is a busy guy ... and his next offering to us - a streaming TV series based on the book by his mother, Virginia Hanlon Grohl, From Cradle to Stage

The series by the same name will debut on Paramount+ on May 6 (just in time for Mother's day!)  So far 6 episodes have been announced (scroll for the lineup and a trailer)

According to Dave (or David as his mother calls him)

“I believe that the relationship between a musician and their mother is so important because it’s the foundation of their understanding of love, which is surely every artist’s greatest muse ... Having the opportunity to travel the country and tell the stories of these amazing women behind the curtain not only shed some light on the music that they inspired, but also made me appreciate the love that I was given from my own mother, my best friend. It goes without saying that we are all indebted to the women who have given us life. For without them, there would be no music.”

From Cradle to Stage

Episode releases:

New Look For Market Space? Restaurants Propose to Keep Downtown Annapolis Roads Closed For The Foreseeable Future

With the impending reconstruction of City Dock in Downtown Annapolis -  restaurants that anticipate a disruption to their business have proposed a plan to keep the current closure of  part of Market Space in place on a long-term basis.

The plan was presented to the Historic Preservation Commission and will merge the expand the public space to Hopkins Plaza and wrap around the Market House and extend to the fronts of  McGarvey’s and Middleton Taven.

You can see the full plan here:

None of these proposed changes have been approved and would not be permanant - only lasting until the City Dock renovations are done ... but if approved - should the be considered for a permanent change?

Hear 'Crawling Kingsnake' - the first track from The Black Keys 10th studio album Delta Kream

The Black Keys have announced they will release their 10th studio album Delta Kream on My 14.

The album celebrates the band’s blues roots and is a celebration of their early inspiration. The music on the album hails from Mississippi juke joints and has long left an imprint on the band’s music.

For this album, Auerbach and Carney recorded the 11 songs at Auerbach’s Easy Eye Sound studio in Nashville and were joined by celebrated session musicians Kenny Brown and Eric Deaton, long-time members of the bands of, amongst others, R. L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough, who originated much of material that inspired Delta Kream.  The album derives its name from an iconic photograph by William Eggleston.

The record opens with its first single-  the duo’s version of “Crawling Kingsnake,” a song credited to Big Joe Williams and popularized by John Lee Hooker

Patrick Carney said on the recording:

“The session was planned only days in advance and nothing was rehearsed.  We recorded the entire album in about 10 hours, over two afternoons.”

-Dan Auerbach adds

“We made this record to honor the Mississippi hill country blues tradition that influenced us starting out.  These songs are still as important to us today as they were the first day Pat and I started playing together and picked up our instruments.  It was a very inspiring session with Pat and me, along with Kenny Brown and Eric

Deaton, in a circle, playing these songs.  It felt so natural.”

Watch Kaleo Perform Tracks From New Record in Front of Erupting Volcanos and On a Rock In The Middle of the North Atlantic Ocean

Kaleo's new album Surface Sounds  will be released this month - and to hype the album - the band has been doing some socially distanced live performances of their new tracks.

And we mean REALLY SOCIALLY DISTANCED.  Earlier this year- the band perform traveled to the  Þridrangar lighthouse, located atop a remote rock formation in the North Atlantic Ocean, to perform "Break My Baby"

Most recently  - Kaleo frontman JJ Julius Son who plays a stripped down acoustic performance of "Skinny" in front of an erupting volcano.

"It was an amazing and surreal experience to film and record this video in front of the live eruption. It was very challenging and required a difficult hike, carrying the equipment with our bare hands. We filmed it during the night, so fortunately there weren't many people there.”

This isn't anything new for the band - who has played “Save Yourself" on a  glacier and "Way Down We Go" inside a volcano

More than 60 concert venues are being wired with live streaming capabilities in a high-tech plan to bring concerts to everyone

After more than a year of empty arenas, Live Nation has a solution - bring the concerts to people's homes - and has begun wiring over 60 venues to be able to livestream shows moving forward.

The project is a collaboration between the concert promoter and Veeps, the livestreaming platform launched by Good Charlotte’s Benji and Joel Madden in 2017 - which Live Nation acquired earlier this year.

Veeps cofounder  Joel Madden says -

“With the flip of a switch, every artist playing in these venues can make their show a global event ... We’ve already seen how livestream shows drive engagement, and the added ticket revenue will allow them to make what they’re offering their fans even better.”

We don't know the full list of venues that will be wired - but the initial roll out includes LA's Wiltern Theater, the House of Blues locations in Chicago and New Orleans, The Filmore venues in San Francisco and Philadelphia, The Gorge in George, Washington, and Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California.

Could this be a good thing moving forward?  Instead of paying inflated third market prices for a sold out concert- you could pay $15 for a live stream of the show?

Mick Jagger Drops Satirical New Collaboration with Dave Grohl: 'Eazy Sleazy' [LISTEN]

Just when I thought life couldn’t get any crazier… and it’s the song of the summer without a doubt!!

Those were Dave Grohl's words after collaborating with Sir Mick Jagger on the new track Eazy Sleazy ...

With lyrics like “Shooting the vaccine/Bill Gates is in my bloodstream/It’s mind control/The Earth is flat and cold”  - its hard to think the satirical tune will be the hit of the summer - but it is fun ...

Sir Mick said - “It’s a song that I wrote about coming out of lockdown, with some much needed optimism ... Thanks to Dave Grohl for jumping on drums, bass and guitar, it was a lot of fun working with him.”

Watch A Never Seen Before Video of John Lennon & Yoko Ono Rehearsing 'Give Peace A Chance' In 1969

Never-before-seen video of John Lennon and Yoko Ono rehearsing the timeless classic - “Give Peace A Chance” has been revealed  ahead of the April 23rd release of the box set -  John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band – The Ultimate Collection

The footage was recorded in the Bahamas at the Sheraton Oceanus Hotel on May 25, 1969 and is considered to be the earliest known version of the song.

Watch the Star Studded Trailer for Dave Grohl's New Movie 'What Drives Us' -a Look At Bands Touring in Vans

Long before they are riding on tour buses and playing sold our arenas - most bands get their start packing their gear (very strategically - if you know you know) a van and heading from town to town playing small gigs ... sometimes to no one but the other bands and the venue staff.

In his spare time (seriously - how does this guy have any of that ??) Dave Grohl, along with his Foo Fighters band mates - have put together a documentary about van life called What Drives Us.

Foo Fighters original tour van

The film follows two bands, Radkey and Starcrawler - as they traverse the states playing shows - and features interviews with St. Vincent, Slash, the Edge, Flea, Steven Tyler, Lars Ulrich, and many others

On the film- Dave says:

“This film is my love letter to every musician that has ever jumped in an old van with their friends and left it all behind for the simple reward of playing music ... What started as a project to pull back the curtain on the DIY logistics of stuffing all of your friends and equipment into a small space for months on end eventually turned into an exploration of ‘why?’ What drives us?’”

Radiohead Adding More Archival Concert Films to YouTube- Including Full-Show Broadcast of 2008 'In Rainbows' Performance

Last year summer-  Radiohead began adding archival concert footage to their YouTube page from their extensive Radiohead Public Library.  This Friday (April 9), the band is reviving the series - and the first upload will be a January 2008 show, performed at London’s 93 Feet East.

According to the band, the set:

“was originally intended to be an in-store performance at London record store Rough Trade East to mark the conventional release of the In Rainbows album—a plan that went awry when hordes of fans and overwhelming media coverage caught the attention of the local authorities. The entire production had to be torn down and a replacement venue found on a moment’s notice. The show ultimately happened at 93ft East, a club with a capacity of a few hundred that was thankfully available for the night. The result was an electric and intimate Radiohead performance like no other, one largely unseen since—until now.”

The video goes live at 3p and you can RSVP or view it below:

Along with the shows - the band is also selling a new line of Stanley Donwood designed  shirts.  The shirts are replicas of shirts the crew would wear on their tour - with each color representing a different department on tour - lights, video, audio, riggers, pushers, backline.

Proceeds from the shirts will benefit stage and crew organizations supported at #WeMakeEvents. Place your order HERE

Dave Grohl releasing a memoir of the most memorable moments of his decades-long career in rock

After being in the rock and roll business for multiple decades - you KNOW Dave Grohl has some good stories ... we got a glimpse of a few of them when he created an Instagram account (out of boredom) last year

Well now - we're getting a full blown memoir of his tales.

The Storyteller is a "collection of memories of a life lived loud. From my early days growing up in the suburbs of Washington, DC, to hitting the road at the age of 18, and all the music that followed, I can now share these adventures with the world, as seen and heard from behind the microphone."

In  the announcement - he says -

“There is a common thread that runs throughout everything that I do: storytelling. Whether in song, documentary film or on the page, I have always felt compelled to share moments from my life. This inclination is a huge part of what excites me creatively but also as a human being”

The Storyteller will be out October 5

St. Vincent debuts new music and new signature guitars on Saturday Night Live

St. Vincent was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live this past weekend - but live performances of cuts from her upcoming album Daddy’s Home weren't the only thing she was showcasing.  She played two songs from her forthcoming record (watch below): "Pay Your Way in Pain” and  “The Melting of the Sun” using the new model of her signature guitar

The Ernie Ball Music Man produced ax with an Okoume body is known as ‘Goldie’.  It comes in three colors on and has  custom parchment control knobs, pearl tuning keys and custom in-lays, plus  stainless steel frets, chrome hardware and a redesigned three-ply parchment pickguard. The guitar will hit the market in June.

Now - on to the performances - which saw Annie Clark perform with  a full band and a trio of vocalists.  She described the experience as surreal:

Playing SNL is a surreal enough experience under normal circumstances ... but watching this cast and crew make the impossible possible doing a live show safely in a pandemic is something I really couldn't have imagined - until strangely enough I was a part of it.  I can't thank Lorne and SNL for having me back, looking after me and my well being, and letting Daddy's Home into studio 8H

AI software writes 'new' Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix and Amy Winehouse songs to raise awareness for mental health support

Too many artists are taken from us too soon - and eerily - many of them are taken from us at the age of 27 - Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain, and Amy Winehouse- just to name a few.  Many of these artists struggled with addiction, depression, and other mental health issues.

Last month - the Toronto organization Over The Bridge has used AI software to write "new" songs by many of these artists to raise awareness for the importance of mental health support.

Sean O’Connor, a member of the board of directors for Over The Bridge told Rolling Stone:

“What if all these musicians that we love had mental health support?  Somehow in the music industry, [depression] is normalized and romanticized … Their music is seen as authentic suffering.”

The project - ‘Drowned In The Sun – Lost Tapes Of The 27 Club’  - used Google’s AI program Magenta to write the music and another AI program create the lyrics.  The  programs analyzed up to 30 songs by each artist to guess what their “new” compositions would sound like.

The simulated Nirvana track - ‘Drowned In The Sun’ features Eric Hogan, singer for Nevermind: The Ultimate Tribute To Nirvana.

The project take on the somber side of Amy Winehouse's catalog with 'Man I Know'

The simulated Jimi Hendrix track - 'You're Gonna Kill Me' - is identifiable from the opening guitar lick

Willie Nelson Leads Petition to Make April 20 part of a 'National High Holiday' - seriously

The petition may have been filed on April Fools Day - but it appears Willie Nelson and his Luck Reunion team are serious about making 4/20 a national holiday.

They have launched a petition appealing to President Biden and the American public to make April 20-29 the National “High Holidays.”

The announcement reads

Ever feel like twenty-four hours isn’t enough time for your 4/20 celebration? Well, you’re in Luck. Team Luck is collecting signatures to petition the U.S government for the “High Holidays” to be nationally celebrated. Luck’s iteration of the High Holidays begins on 4/20, of course, and ends with a celebration of Willie Nelson's birthday, which falls on 4/29. This petition, while slightly in jest, aims to destigmatize cannabis usage and users, and to broaden the dialogue with Congress re: decriminalization and the many benefits of the Cannabis plant.

Help us: Luck Presents is petitioning the Biden Administration and Congress to make 4/20 to 4/29 the national “High Holidays” in honor of Willie Nelson’s contribution to the cannabis industry, and to celebrate his birthday. Sign the petition here. More info here.

He said it best: Willie Nelson, the unofficial patron saint of weed, said, “I think people need to be educated to the fact that marijuana is not a drug. Marijuana is an herb and a flower. God put it here. If He put it here and He wants it to grow, what gives the government the right to say that God is wrong?”
