In a press release, Roger Daltrey said:

So here we are, six months into one of the strangest times in living memory. Where everyone has had some sense of what isolation, even for short periods, can do to the state of our mental health. Without the environment and services that Teenage Cancer Trust provide within our NHS, specifically for this age group, isolation throughout their lengthy treatments becomes a strong possibility. Through Teenage Cancer Trust, the UK has led the world in recognising the specific issues that this age group with cancer suffer. Please donate generously to make sure this vital work continues through these difficult times.

I know things are really tight for everyone at the moment, our whole business is out of work. If you’re watching this on YouTube, understand this is there for a function—to raise money for a charity - the charity is desperately in need of the money to keep its services going. So, if you can donate even the price of a coffee, anything it will really help. I’m sure the audiences for these artists will be very high and if all of you just put $10 in, or £5, that would be a huge amount if money to get us through this year. Because we want to be there for you in case you ever need us, or your family ever needs us. Don’t let this virus destroy it.

Lana Del Rey is the perfect choice for Matt Maeson's new version of 'Hallucinogenics' - listen

Back in 2018 - a guy in a skull cap showed up to the WRNR studios to do an in studio performance ... Matt Maeson - from VA Beach was on his first promo tour for his LP Bank on the Funeral and played us a few tracks.  One that really caught our ear was Hallucinogenics ... there was something hauntingly perfect about it

... and apparently we weren't the only fans -  Lana Del Rey invited Maeson onstage in 2019  to perform a duet of the track live.

Hallucinogenics Feat. @lanadelrey is out now! Lana sent me a message on Instagram at random asking if I’d like to come play Hallucinogenics at one of her shows last year. I very eagerly agreed even tho I’m a super busy guy who does super busy things and it was a surreal experience to say the least. I was nervous af and the crowd started singing along and it was just an insane moment for me. I remember listening to Born To Die on repeat when it came out and her songwriting heavily influenced the writing I do today. When we asked her to hop on Hallucinogenics with me she was into it and bang bang we got a duet! An absolute dream come true. Thank you so much Lana ????????????????????????

Lucky for us - someone was wise enough to recognize that this pair on this track was the right formula - and we now have the official remix featuring both singers.

Bruce Springsteen looks back on his years as a musician on powerful new song 'Ghosts' [LISTEN]

Bruce Springsteen has a new album on the way (Letter to You – due out Oct. 23) and everything we know about the record so far has us pretty excited.

First – the record was recorded with the E Street Band (!) and the group recorded the album “completely live” meaning no over dubs (something very rare these days … and they did it in just five days at Bruce’s home studio.  And one of the even cooler things about the record is that The Boss wrote all the songs using a guitar given to him by a fan after one of his Broadway gigs.  How freakin cool is that?

Well – this week, after turning 71, Bruce must have been feeling a little nostalgic – and released the albums second single - titled "Ghosts"

Of the track, Springsteen said:

“’Ghosts’ is about the beauty and joy of being in a band, and the pain of losing one another to illness and time.  Ghosts’ tries to speak to the spirit of the music itself, something none of us owns but can only discover and share together. In the E Street Band, it resides in our collective soul, powered by the heart.”

The track was released along with a nostalgic Thom Zimny-directed video that showing footage from the album's recording sessions along with clips Bruce's early days in bands like The Castiles.

Hear Kurt Vile's stunning duet with John Prine, 'How Lucky' from forthcoming EP 'Speed, Sound, Lonely KV'

Kurt Vile has announced he has a new EP on the way.   ‘Speed, Sound, Lonely KV’ is due out 10/2 and was recorded over a span of four years at The Butcher Shoppe studio in Nashville.  The record has five songs — covers of John Prine and “Cowboy” Jack Clement as well as two originals.  The Philly native recorded the record with the help of some local heavyweights like Bobby Wood and Dan Auerbach. (preorder HERE)

The first track to be released is probably the most incredible though - and what KV has called "Probably the single most special musical moment in my life” – a duet with the late John Prine on the songwriter’s well-loved tune, “How Lucky.”

Kurt noted in a personal statement:

“The truth is John was my hero for a long time when he came into The Butcher Shoppe to recut one of his deepest classics with me. And, man, I was floating and flying and I couldn't hear anything he told me while he was there till after he was gone for the night,”

A couple nights later we were playing ‘How Lucky’ together again; this time onstage at the Grand Ole Opry on New Year's Eve at the turn of 2020. Nothing like seeing John and his band of musical brothers and family and friends playing into the new decade in front of an adoring audience on that stage in Nashville, TN... and, yup, that's just how lucky we all got that night."

American Girl recruits The Go Go's to introduce their new 80's themed doll - Courtney Moore

Alight Gen X'ers -if you don't already - get ready to feel old  ... American Girl, the comapny who is known for creating dolls based on "historical" characters, has launched a new '80s themed doll named Courtney Moore.  And she's like - totally awesome

Courtney's a "video-game lover with a totally rad style who dreams to make games of her own."

She can be seen rocking some acid washed jeans and boots at the arcade playing video games - especially her favorite -classic Pac Man.  She also collects Care Bears and is always carrying her pastel-colored double cassette boombox.

Newly reformed 80's icons '80s icons The Go-Gos, were tapped to help introduce Courtney to the world.

On the TODAY show, Go Go Kathy Valentine said:

"I think what (American Girl) wants to do with the Courtney doll is bring attention to what that era was like for women.  The feminist movement had come about in the '60s and '70s, and in the '80s you started seeing women in politics more. You saw them going into tech and getting the results of the hard work of the feminist pioneers."

Fellow Go Go Jane Wiedlin said:

"They started calling The Go-Go's music 'golden oldies' a while ago. But, on the other hand, it's very flattering that the '80s are back. I think you just kind of have to embrace it because time marches on."

Courtney and her accessories are available now online via the American Girl Webstore , and will be in American Girl stores on September 25.

American Girl Doll is matching donations to Girls Who Code, a non-profit organization working to close the gender gap in technology, and will offer four $5000 scholarships to help further computer science education.  Totally rad!

Dave Grohl Levels Up In Virtual Drum Battle - Writes/Performs a Theme Song for Viral Drumming Sensation Nandi Bushell

Did you think Dave Grohl was going down without a fight?  The Foo Fighter frontman came back strong in round 2 of his ongoing drum battle with viral 10-year-old rocker Nandi Bushell.

Bushell has been showing off her drumming prowess for the past year- posting videos of her skills online.

Several weeks ago - she laid down the gauntlet to her hero Dave Grohl - challenging him to a drum battle after posting a video of her playing drums along to the Foo Fighter anthem Everlong.

After some peer pressure- Dave responded with a challenge of his own – a video of him playing the Them Crooked Vultures track – Dead End Friends.  The youngster wasn’t phased and immediately responded with her rebuttal – playing the track beat for beat.

Dave accepted defeat – but added he had something special planned for Nandi in his follow up

Well - that something special turned out to be a personalized Super Hero Theme song - written and performed by Grohl (with some help from "The Grohlettes")

Before debuting the jam - Dave declared:

"Okay Nandi, you got me. You win round one...But I got something special for you. Something you've never heard before. Something I've never heard before, because I'm about to write this off the top of my head for you."

That . Is . Awesome.

***Update***

Nandi has shared her reaction to the video ! <3

Mt. Joy Add Maryland Date to Their Drive In Concert Tour

With concert venues being closed since March - bands have had to find alternative ways to perform live for their fans.

Virtual performances have been a hit - but some bands have felt the itch to perform live in front of an audience - albeit socially distanced.

Bands like The Avett Brothers and Sublime have played shows - and now Mt. Joy is getting in on the idea- announcing a 10 date drive in concert tour, including a show at the Frederick Maryland Fair Grounds on October 6.

Tickets are a little expensive (we heard up to $150 per car ... but maybe you can borrow Fred Schneider's Chrysler?) and the drive is a little far - an hour from Annapolis - but all in all -that's a small price to pay if you've been missing concerts as much as we have !!!

This week, Rateliff who has announced that he was ready to hit the stage again with a few fans - and  will be performing five socially distanced concerts from the Red Rocks Ampitheatre in Colorado.

The shows will take place September 15, 16, 18, 19 and 21 and will feature "various aspects of Rateliff’s stellar musicianship, ranging from stripped-back moments with just his voice and acoustic guitar to a full 10-piece folk band accompaniment, which includes a string quartet.”

Rateliff said:

“We want to get out there and play.  We feel so fortunate that Red Rocks is our hometown venue and look forward to having people at normal capacities in the future. But until that time it will feel great to make the best of the current situation, we want to get back to that live energy. These shows will be special for us, and hopefully the fans, as we will have our full production, custom light show and projections that were featured on the original tour that was unfortunately cancelled.”

Each show will have a maximum capacity of 175 fans and seating will be GA (following state social distancing guidelines).

Hear Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day's cover 'Whole Wide World' by Wreckless Eric

Since having to postpone their Hella Mega Tour with Weezer and Fall Out Boy, Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong kept busy this summer by churning out some new/old tunes with his No Fun Mondays covers series.  Over the summer we've heard covers of "I Think We're Alone Now" by Tommy James & the ShondellsJohn Lennon's,  "Kids in America," by Kim Wilde and more..

The series has been on hiatus since July - but this week we got a surprise cover from BJA - with his take on the 1977 Wreckless Eric track - Whole Wide World.  The track isn't part of No Fun Mondays series - but was recorded for Amazon Music.

It's not the first time Billie Joe Armstrong has given his take to the track either - his all-star cover group, The Coverups - would play the song at some of their secret shows.

Phoebe Bridgers Covering Radiohead's 'Fake Plastic Trees' in a Church May Give You Goosebumps: Watch

In 1995, Radiohead released their sophomore album - The Bends - and track 4 from the now classic record - a song that singer Thom Yorke said was "the product of a joke that wasn't really a joke, a very lonely, drunken evening and, well, a breakdown of sorts" - Fake Plastic Trees - is going through a bit of a resurgence in 2020 - with several amazing covers of the song being released.

The most recent  - and our personal favorite - is the chilling version recorded by Phoebe Bridgers.  The track - recorded in a church (sound familiar?)  for the BBC show Phil Taggart’s Chillest Show features Bridgers giving the song a goosebump inducing rendition of the track with R&B star Arlo Parks providing harmonies and piano accompaniment:

The two offered collaborated on Bridgers’ own song “Kyoto” during the session

It's not the first time Bridgers has covered the song ... it's not even the first time she performed it in a church.  Here she is covering the song in 2017:

We mentioned the song getting a lot of attention recently - Haley Williams of the band Paramore recently posted her cover of the song as well.

Could a new Bruce Springsteen album be on the way? His producer hints something 'is coming'

Before the pandemic threw a wrench into, well EVERYTHING ... Bruce Springsteen revealed that there was a new E Street Band album and tour in store for us.

With live shows not happening any time soon, hopefully we can still anticipate that new album ...

The Asbury Park Press found a clue online revealing that the album might be coming our way sooner than later - when producer long time Springsteen producer Ron Aniello posted an Instagram story with the text "It's coming..." over black and white video of a stormy sea

Other clues come from even closer to the Boss Camp - Bruce's wife Patti Scialfa recently revealed to Rolling Stone that the two have “...been sharing a studio, and Bruce has just been so prolific lately that it’s hard for me to get in there ... He’s always like, ‘I have to go do this thing and that thing.’"

Elsewhere  - E Street Band member Nils Lofgren revealed on the "What's Up on E Street?" podcast that  "as great a record in the works as I ever heard Bruce make and that's saying a lot.”
