Need a Brandi Carlile Fix? The Grammy winner will play a series of virtual concerts - including a full performance of 'By the Way, I Forgive You'

Besides a brief appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert's tribute to the late John Prine - Brandi Carlile has been relatively quiet during her quarantine.  But the Grammy award winner has decided to pick up the guitar again and make some virtual appearances in the coming weeks -

We told you about the massive All In For Wa. concert Carlile will also take part in on Wednesday, June 10 at 10 p.m. ET with Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews, Ben Gibbard, Allen Stone and many more.  The fund's goal is to raise $65 million dollars for Washington state residents in need - with all individual donations under $1 million being matched by Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos up to $25 million !!!   (more info)

But the biggest news for fans came this week from Camp Carlile - where the singer announced she will be starting a series of live performances along with band mates Phil and Tim Hanseroth and Josh Neumann aka - the twins.

The 'shows' will each feature the trio performing one of her albums in full ... starting with the Grammy Award-winning, 'By the Way, I Forgive You'. The Black Keys' Dan Auerbach Provides an Update on his Assorted Quarantine Projects

Consider The Black Keys' guitarist Dan Auerbach among those who took the COVID-19 situation from the beginning. In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Auerbach says he began wearing face coverings back in January.

“I’d heard about all this stuff kinda early and I wore a mask, and everyone was calling me crazy. So I was kind of quarantined already.”

In the interview - Auerbach gave an update on the multiple projects he has going on:

The Black Keys:

The Black Keys were set to hit the road this summer - continuing their Let's Rock Tour ... but those dates have now been cancelled - including the show scheduled for Merriweather Post on August 28 :/

In regards to when we might see Dan and Patrick back on the road again - it sounds like they are playing it safe  - and will be waiting until there is a vaccine readily available.

But - the duo has been using this time to work on some studio works - that includes a expanded edition reissue of the album Brothers - which just celebrated its 10th anniversary.

Robert Finley:

If caught Nathaniel Rateliff at The Anthem back in 2018 - and were smart enough to get there early enough to catch the opener - then you were lucky to see the amazing soul stylings of Robert Finley.

Auerbach has confirmed that he has completed an album with Finley - but its release date has been put on hold

Robert Finley & Dan Auerbach - Medicine Woman

Other than that - Auerbach seems content spending lots of time home schooling his kids. Waiting on wide scale testing to hit the studio, and sending surrigates in his place to see live music (LOL)

Weezer's Rivers Cuomo covered Green Day's 'Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)' on his Island in the Zoom Sessions

Since the new Weezer album has been delayed, they had to postpone their Hella Mega summer tour, and they were made into cartoons for The Simpsons- Rivers Cuomo has had to keep himself busy somehow - and he's been doing so by going live on his latest Island in the Zoom Sessions.

On the latest session - the Weezer singer was accompanied by his wife for a cover of the Green Day song - “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life).”  Maybe he did it because he is sad his band won't be on the road with Green Day this summer - or maybe it was because the song is a graduation staple  ... and he wanted to dedicate it to the class of 2020

On a previous episode - he covered Nirvana's Heart Shaped Box

Watch Wilco Perform New Single 'Tell Your Friends' (with a Little Help From their Families) on Colbert

WIlco was the musical guest on the May 20th edition of the Late Show With Stephen Colbert - and they delivered a memorable remote performance of their new song Tell Your Friends, - with a little help from the family members they are quarantined with.

Jeff Tweedy performed a solo version of “Jesus, Etc.”

Check out videos of both songs below ... and keep holding onto hope that Wilco's concert at Merriweather Post Pavilion happens this summer ... although that hope is fading :(

Out Now: Grace Potter Releases EachOther feat. Jackson Browne, Marcus King, and Lucius [LISTEN]

Since April 27 -Grace Potter has been weekly live stream music sessions titled Monday Night Twilight with Grace Potter. (The show airs each Monday at 9 p.m. ET on her socials and YouTube)

In the sessions - Grace offers “intimate, acoustic performances of new songs, deep cuts, special requests and well-chosen covers, shot live from her home in Topanga Canyon, CA.”

One of those new songs is a track called Eachother - specifically spelled as one word - because "In the end - we still have one another".

Of the song, Potter said:

The chorus of the song just kind of exploded out of my heart all at once. It was about 5 days into the quarantine and I had just gotten off the phone with a friend who was having a really tough time with the isolation. I was in our living room, watching my son & husband fixing our broken train set and found myself flooded with an overwhelming sense of gratitude & contentment.

The song was so special to Grace, she recruited some friends, Lucius, Jackson Browne, and Marcus King, to record a version of the song and officially release it.  You can hear the live raw version and produced versions below.

The band released a video for the album's first single 'Brave' using footage solicited from doctors, nurses, first responders, grocery industry workers, and other essential workers of all walks from around the world.  The response they received was overwhelming and the band along with JR Mitchell / Haymaker Studios did an amazing job putting the clips together into this moving video.

The Dropkick Murphys - an Irish Punk band from Quincy, Massachusets have been on the forefront of concert innovation since the pandemic started the cancellation of so many shows ...

When they were forced to cancel their annual St. Patrick's Day Show - they performed a full band live stream show from an empty venue.

Maryland Restaurant Makes National Headlines with Its Social Distancing Seating Concept

Maryland has begun taking steps on its Roadmap to Recovery.  Unfortunately - the state is only at the beginning of Phase One - which only allows restaurants and bars to offer carry out and delivery food and drink service and not have customers inside.

When they are able to reopen, there will be restrictions in place, which will most likely mean social distancing enforcement - and Fish Tales, a popular bar and restaurant in Ocean City, Maryland - seems to be concocting a solution to this - by having customers sit inside giant (6 ft) inflatable inner tubes on wheels - complete with a counter for you to put your coconut shrimp and Orange Crush on!

Fish Tales owner Donna Harman has apparently bought 10 of the Bumper Tables - and 'rolled them out' - literally - last weekend.  Due to the size of the tables - Harman says she will likely test them out in the parking lot since there is not enough room in the restaurant to make them feasibl

The bumper tables are the brainchild of Erin Cermak and her team at Revolution Event.  They have been getting tons of inquiries about the tables ... but only time will tell if you'll be having a bumper beer with your buds this summer

Watch Jason Isbell Perform Entire Reunions LP with Wife Amanda Shires for a Virtual Audience at Nashville's Brooklyn Bowl

Normally when a band releases an album - they play a big record release show to celebrate their accomplishment with fans  ... well - things definitely aren't normal these days ... So when the release date Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit's new album Reunions came (May 15, 2020) - Jason decided to adapt to the "new normal" and play a record release concert anyway ... so what does that mean?

Isbell, along with his wife Amanda Shires (who is part of the 400 Unit) showed up to the Brooklyn Bowl music venue in Nashville and performed the new album in its entirety

But one thing was missing - kind of - an audience.  To comply with social distancing guidelines, Isbell invited fans to join them at the show via Zoom.  Their screens were shared on screens throughout the venue and even unmuted after each song so Isbell and Shires could hear their applause

Isbell commented during the show- which you can stream below -

“Hey everybody I see y’all ... This crowd is ready.”

Apparently the crowd was so into it - they got an encore from the duo ... who performed Cover Me Up and a cover of Warren Zevon's Mutineer.

Is this the new normal?

Matt Bellamy of MUSE Buys 1983 Fender Telecaster That Jeff Buckley Used to Record 'Hallelujah'

Matt Bellamy of MUSE (and The Jaded Hearts Club) - has always played some unique guitars ... but he recently told Guitar World he has bought a new guitar - and it is pretty amazing.

Bellamy has purchased the 1983 blonde USA Fender Telecaster that Jeff Buckley used to record the amazing record - Grace .  You can see him playing it below on the video for Hallelujah

Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah (Official Video)

Bellamy did his due-diligence before buying the guitar-

“I had a whole team of people doing due diligence on it to make sure it was absolutely the right one, interviewing his family and all sorts, and I managed to get it verified .. It doesn’t sound like any other Telecaster. I’ve had all the electronics analyzed — nobody’s changed anything — but the pickups, they think the neck pickup was a mistake by the manufacturer because for some reason it’s slightly out-of-phase, and there’s also something weird about the wiring. To cut a long story short, it’s got an extremely glassy, bright sound, and it doesn’t really sound like any other guitar I’ve used before.”

Bellamy went on to say that he didn't buy the guitar for a souvenir - he has already used it to record some songs with his new super group  -The Jaded Hearts Club - and also plans on using it on the next MUSE record ... which is exciting to know that there is a new MUSE record on the way...

Until then - we can enjoy Matt's new solo music -

Jason Isbell Will Livestream a Concert Tonight to Commemorate the Release His New Album - Reunions

Jason Isbell does not hold back ... and anyone who has talked to the Alabama singer songwriter, seen him live, or even followed his social media - you know he speaks his mind ... and tells a great story too.

Last summer, when he headlined Merriweather Post Pavilion, he told a few stories (that might have involved some RNR stafffers- no names mentioned) of some wold nights in Baltimore.

Isbell is back, with this band the 400 Unit, releasing his seventh solo album Reunions today May 15 (read our review HERE)

To celebrate the release - Isbell, accompanied by his wife and fellow musician Amanda Shires, will play a show from an empty Brooklyn Bowl in Nashville tonight (May 15) via fans.com at 8 p.m ET.

Viewers are encouraged to make a donation in support of both Isbell’s crew and the MusiCares COVID-19 Relief Fund

Pearl Jam Gaze Into Climate Change Activist Greta Thunberg's Crystal Ball in 'Retrograde Video: Watch

The more mistakes, the more resolve
It’s?gonna take much more than ordinary love
To lift this up

Pearl Jam have released the video for 'Retrograde' - the latest single from their 11th album Gigaton.  And keeping with the climate change battle cry that has surrounded the album - the band recruited 17-year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg  for the video that paints a grim picture of the world if changes aren't made to protect the environment.

In the video - Thunberg plays a fortune teller, who's shop is located a strip mall occupied by stores named after Pearl Jam albums, gazes into her crystal ball and sees a catastrophic future for the planet and then proceeds to flip over tarot cards showing Eddie Vedder, Jeff Ament, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard and Matt Cameron

Quarantine Check-In: Noah Cyrus Chats witt Bobby On The Street via Zoom

Under normal circumstances - 2020 probably would have been the Summer of Cyrus - Noah Cyrus that is.  Noah - the daughter of Billy Ray and sister of Miley - was slated to perform at some big time festivals like SXSW and Firefly - on the back of her amazing EP - The End of Everything (due out May 15) - featuring the smash single 'July'

But plans all changed back in March - festivals and tours were cancelled or put on hold.  But the release Noah's much anticipated EP The End of Everything wasn't changed.  The EP will be out this Friday (5/15) - with it's global smash single July (feat. Leon Bridge) - which has already going platinum in multiple countries

The 20 year old took some time to speak with WRNR's Bobby on the Street about the EP, life in quarantine, munchies, and one of her BFF's - Lil Nas X:

Broadneck High School's Class of 2020 missed out on a lot traditions - but their Senior Prank wasn't one of them

Proms, in person graduations, sports and the remainder of their school year were all cancelled - but that didn't stop Broadneck High School's Class of 2020 from pulling off another high school tradition - the senior prank.

Senior Pranks are somewhat of a right of passage - and these students decided it was only appropriate to put a pandemic spin on their gag ... posting a "For Sale" sign on their now vacant high school building.

One student  (who will hopefully  be a film major somewhere this fall)  put together this amazing video showing how the prank was pulled off.   Under any other circumstnances, posting evidence of the prank would have been a  bone headed move most likely resulting in them getting caught.  But with the circumstances the kids are in - seems like everyone got a good laugh out of the move.

Well played Broadneck High School Seniors!

#SaveOurStages: Hundreds of Local Music Venues and Concert Promoters Form National Independent Venue Association - Seeking Federal Assistance To Help Survive COVID-19 Shutdowns

In March - as COVID-19 spread across the country and states began to take action - including decisions to close non-essential businesses - music venues were some of the hardest hit.  They had no way to 'pivot and alter their way of doing business' and for months - many have been unable to generate any revenue.

(Spoon at 9:30 Club - Photo: Tedd Henn)

Some iconic locations, like Great Scott in Boston, have already announced they will not be able to re-open.  Others, like LA's Troubadour, have called their re-opening 'a big if'.  Almost all venues have had to fire or furlough staff.  The industry is slated to lose nearly $9 BILLION of revenue if they were to remain closed through the end of the year.

(Jade Bird at Rams Head On Stage  - Photo: Tedd Henn)

This has prompted nearly 1,200 music venues and concert promoters - including 25+ right here in the DC/Maryland/Virginia region - to band together to form the National Independent Venue Association, or NIVA.  Their goal - “securing financial support (from the federal government)  to preserve the national ecosystem of independent venues and promoters.”

According to NIVA:
These entertainment hubs are critical to their local economies and tax bases as employers, tourism destinations, and revenue generators for neighboring businesses such as restaurants, hotels, and retail. Independent venues exist in every state across the country; they were the first to be closed, they will be the last to open. The economic recovery process will extend past just reopening the front doors, requiring solutions unique to the industry.

So far- they have presented a letter to Congress “seeking national guidelines for large gatherings to occur in a safe manner” and presented ideas for solutions to the existential crisis facing the live music industry.

Cage The Elephant Debut Matt Shultz Directed Video For 'Black Madonna [WATCH]

We've been high on Cage The Elephant's track Black Madonna from the Social Cues album since we first heard it ...and today - the band has made us fall in love with the song all over again by releasing a Matt Schultz directed video for the song.

The video came with this note:

This piece, was composed with the intent of being. A question, or commentary. Humans throughout history, have experience fractures of heart, struggling with deep separation, shame and isolation. What is the depth of the pain, actions and reactions, each soul experience while dealing with these fractures, separations, isolations. Is there a light of love that shatters the shadows of hate? Truly heartbroken when pondering such vast adversity. And yet encouraged, there is great hope in the light of Love. Using film formats and various processing techniques of motion picture, diverse in time period and geographical point of origin, we framed them in the context of our current global circumstance. How the slightest micro-action can create an undercurrent of macro-emotional reaction contained in thought, and heart behind the eye. What happens when what is perceived as micro is macro? The face. Interfaces. Projections and reactions. If the eye is actually the lamp, knowing it is a lens, what if what is perceived to be light or illumination, within the eye, lamp (or entering the lens/perspective) is actually a complete or partial obstruction of light? Deep shadows. How great is that obstruction of view and what effect does it have on image? Individualized, localized, globalized, universally and Omni. Could the light of Love (seen and unseen) be the only source of illumination in true balance, perfect, good enough to fill those fractures, causing the shadows of separation to retreat. In light of Love, can life be seen more clearly, images of the present and past, being restored.

Social Cu(bes)

Digital or Physical,

This isolation is an illusion

Loves the only way

Big thanks to all who have contributed to this project so far, giving so much of themselves. More to come soon, so much love, with great hope, that this is the beginning of something beautiful, healing that is both restorative in heart and physical circumstance, having life lasting, life sustaining impact.

Weezer's New Song and User Generated Video for 'Hero' Pays Tribute to Essential Workers

Welp - looks like we'll be waiting a little bit longer to hear the new Weezer album - Van Weezer ... and to see if it lived up to singer Rivers Cuomo's assessment of it being  “back to big guitars. ‘Blue Album’-ish, but a little more riffy.”

The band has announced the album's release will be delayed - but they did provide us with another song and amazing video from the album, for the track 'Hero

In the video - Cuomo writes a letter that’s passed from person to person  (via Weezer fan submitted footage).  The letter - which you can view below - is a thank you note to the front line workers of the COVID-19 crisis, whose “bravery and selflessness are awe-inspiring."

The band released the song on May 6 - National Nurses Day - and said the song is for “the stay at home dreamers, the Zoom graduators, the sourdough bakers and the essential workers.”
