Why is it that the news only seems to report on the negative narratives? That's a question we all seem to be asking - especially now. The positive, feel good stories are always buried in the second or third segment of the broadcast ...
Well, John Krasinski - aka Jim from The Office - has started his own news network - SGN (Some Good News network)
He started the project with a tweet - asking people to send him some inspirational stories that are making them feel better these days
Alright everybody, how about #SomeGoodNews ! Send me the stories that have made you feel good this week or the things that just made you smile!
And the response was unbelievable .. who knew - people want to hear positive news :)
He got over 1,000 retweets and 20,000 likes ... so he decided to start his own network - via YouTube. So far - as of March 31- he's only had one broadcast - but it covers a lot of positive stories, features some special guests, and even hints at a reunion of The Office!
It's quite understandable that some of us are experiencing some anxiety that could even be giving you trouble falling asleep these days ...
Well, maybe this can help ease your mind at night ... Dolly Parton - the woman who "Will Always Love You" has announced a live bedtime story series ... cause you know - anyone can do a living room concert ;)
“I hope this gift will further inspire a love of books and shared story time during this important time. … From everyone on our team, thank you so much for inspiring a love of reading in your family. As I always say — We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails — and we’re going to do just that, together.”
As the world unites in response to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the “Together At Home” campaign and virtual concert series works to engage and mobilize people to take urgent action in support of the World Health Organization (WHO), and help protect the world’s most vulnerable people from the effects of the pandemic. Join the campaign by taking meaningful action against COVID-19 here.

Last week, the band announced that they will be supporting their 12 member touring crew - by dotting all of the proceeds from their official online merch sales and new fanclub memberships to their 'family' who has been out of work due to the band having to cancel shows because of the Coronavirus
“Our crew are the lifeblood of our touring operation and have become family through the many years we’ve worked together. As uncertainty looms over the state of the live concert industry, we will direct all profits from merch sales through our webstore, new Cherry Tree fan club enrollments, and sales from the Cherry Tree members-only store to support our crew members throughout this crisis to the best of our ability.”

Former REM frontman Michael Stipe has taken to the internet during his self isolation to share a new song he has been working on. The (in the works) song titled “No Time for Love Like Now” is a collaboration with Aaron Dessner of the National.
Stipe posted a video of him providing vocals along with the music being played from a laptop.
This is the third solo track Stipe has released in the recent months, following “Your Capricious Soul” and “Drive to the Ocean" - which you can keep scrolling to hear

Stipe also updated the lyrics to R.E.M.’s 1987 hit “It’s the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine)” after it reentered the singles charts during the COVID-19 pandemic
The song - his first new track in eight years - was released on Friday (3/27), and is a 17-minute-long ballad “Murder Most Foul” The song centers around November 22, 1963 - the “dark day in Dallas” when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated. The song also references Woodstock, Patsy Cline and The Beatles.

People are coming together and stepping up to help in some truly amazing ways to help out during the COVID-19 pandemic. From purchasing food from a closed restaurant to feed a family in need to distillers replacing liquor production with hand sanitizer production to simply staying inside - it is amazing to see people working together to help the world through this crisis.
Some Maryland Makers are also pitching in - by making surgical masks and face shields for health care workers.
When Baltimore Center Stage had to close its doors to audiences - their production staff, led by Costume Director David Burdick, decided to use their down productively by creating cloth hospital masks for their neighbor - Mercy Hospital Center.
The staff consulted with Mercy Hospital and CDC guidelines and began delivering the masks this week.
Through this project Open Works has started a volunteer based collaborative project to create face shields medical workers are in dire need of using 3D printers. These shields, which are being made using a design developed by Prusa Labs in the Czech Republic, when used with lower-grade surgical masks (like the ones mentioned above) can provide the CDC-recommended level of protection for health care workers and first responders on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The group We The Builders is organizing the printing of the parts needed while Open Works is collecting parts, sanitizing, assembling, and packaging them. The group Innovation Works is dealing with taking orders from health care providers and making sure the orders are fulfilled.
Today, March 26, was supposed to be Opening Day for the Baltimore Orioles ... a sacred day for most Baltimoreons ... but since the O's aren't taking on the Yankees at Oriole Park - we're missing things like the Crab Shuffle, Clancy, World Famous Hot Dog Man, singing Thank God I'm a Country Boy ... and most importantly - the condiment races !
Well, Jonathan Monroe is today's hero - posting a simulated / homemade version of the race . Well played Jonathan ... well played!
Instead of being at Pickles or Sliders .. we're at home, under self Corn Teen
The series is being dubbed "a weekly streaming entertainment series that will include music, gaming, comedy and more in support of small businesses affected by COVID-19.”
Verizon has announced they will donate up to $5 million to the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, who in turn will “use the funds to provide grants of up to $10,000 to businesses facing immediate financial pressure because of COVID-19..."
During the broadcasts, viewers will be "encouraged to tag their favorite local businesses and make a purchase in advance for when the crisis is over and the businesses reopen.”
Verizon’s chairman-CEO, Hans Vestberg said:
"Small businesses are being impacted in extraordinary ways as we all fight against the spread of COVID-19. These companies provide employment opportunities, goods, services, and gathering places that are the soul of local communities. ‘Pay it Forward Live’ will give all Americans an opportunity to help their favorite small businesses survive this unprecedented hardship.”
Up until a few weeks ago, Social Distancing was a term most of us had not heard of before (we see you introverts)
But now, more than ever, the art of deliberately increasing the physical space between people, is a crucial step to take in order to help stop the spread of COVID-19 / Coronavirus. It is recomended that staying at least six feet away from other people can lessen your chances of catching COVID-19.
Relatives visit a family member in a nursing home through a window due to social distnacing
We are seeing this happening all over - in Maryland, non essential businesses have been ordered to close, restaurants and bars are only offering carry out and delivery food and drink orders, and stores that are open, like grocery and hardware stores, are taping X's on their floors to show where customers should stand while waiting in line.
And now websites like Facebook, Google, and Instagram are taking their users data to show how well they are (and aren't) practicing social distancing.
According to the World Health Organization and the CDC, social distancing is currently the most effective way to slow the spread of COVID-19. We created this interactive Scoreboard, updated daily, to empower organizations to measure and understand the efficacy of social distancing initiatives at the local level.
Firefly 2020 is the latest casualy of the Covid-19 virus that continues to wreak havoc on the world.
The Dover, DE festival was boasting one of its best lineups ever in 2020 - with Billie Eilish, Rage Agianst the Machine, and Halsey set to headline in June.
In a statement, the festival promoters said:
"At the direction of state and local authorities and federal guidelines amid the COVID-19 pandemic, we are saddened to confirm the cancellation of Firefly Music Festival 2020. We take the safety and health of our fans, staff and community seriously and we urge everyone to follow the guidelines and protocols put forth by public health officials.
We are deeply disappointed by this difficult decision, one that impacts our fans and our incredible team of performers, crew, vendors & our community in Dover, Delaware.
In these unprecedented times, we send you our love. Thank you for your support and we look forward to welcoming you in the Woodlands in June 2021 where we will dance, sing and celebrate live music together."
There's a saying in Hollywood - 'The show must go on' - and in response to the Covid-19 pandemic and through the wonders of modern technology,The Annapolis Film Festival (AFF) will in fact go on ... just a little differently this year.
Festival organizers have announced that audiences will be able to view the films they planned to show this weekend in Annapolis online - in the comfort and safety of their homes from March 27-29, 2020.
Film viewers are encouraged to complete their viewing experience - with dinner and a movie at home - with a take out meal from one of their sponsors who are still offering carryout and delivery options -
There are some restrictions to the viewing platform, such as films can only be viewed once per user and films cannot be replayed from the beginning, but they can be paused and rewound up to 10 minutes.
In light of the Covid-19 pandemic - we have seen an overwhelming response from the community to help local businesses ... Facebook groups like Annapolis Area Take-Out have been set up to communicate what restaurants are serving food have been set up. The City of Annapolis even set up a Google List showing those restaurants that are still serving food.
But Monica Alvarado, of Bread and Butter Kitchen in Eastport and Ryan Sirmons, Lead Organizer of Anne Arundel Connecting Together (ACT) have taken things a step further - setting up a GoFundMe fundraiser called Feed Anne Arundel to raise money to buy meals from local restaurants - to feed the less fortunate. By doing this - they hope to allow restaurants to pay their employees and keep their lights on while serving meals to those in need.
They have set a goal of $50,000 and in just 4 days - they have raised over $10,000.
As of March 19 - the following restaurants have pledged their support and many more have been contacted. We will continue to update this list as more respond to our request for help.
Blue Roosters Cafe
Bonefish Grill - Crofton
Bread and Butter Kitchen
Harvest Thyme Tavern
Luna Blu Ristorante Italiano
The full statement of their mission states:
Our goal is simple - support local restaurants and provide meals for community members in need during the COVID 19 crisis.
The current situation is unprecedented and is having a devastating effect on local businesses, especially restaurants. Many have had to lay off employees or shut down completely. In parallel, many families are struggling to make ends meet and providing delicious, healthy meals is becoming increasingly difficult as grocery stores are running out of everything.
We are raising money today so that we can pay local restaurants to make food for those in need. This will allow restaurants to pay their employees and keep their lights on. We are working with restaurants throughout the county to ensure the greatest coverage.
We have connected with AA County Partnership for Children, Youth, and Families. In the immediate future, we are planning to join them at their mobile food pantries to provide prepared meals in addition to groceries. There are three scheduled over the next three weeks and we will need to provide meals to feed over 600 people.
Please consider donating to our fund. Every penny counts. Your donation will support so many people - from cooks and servers to local families in need - the ripple effect will be felt across our community.
And you can help too - because through March 28, I.M.P. will the value of every gift card purchased with a donation to the I.M.P. Family Fund. These gift cards can be used for tickets to a future show, merch or concessions.
Due to the current health crisis, the majority of our hourly staff is out of work until we can reopen. We've created the I.M.P. Family Fund to assist w/ these difficult times. Starting now, we'll match every gift card purchase through 3/28. Learn more: https://t.co/EYWaNRVjpJ
What started as a simple tweet offering some help by fashion designer, Project Runway star, and Annapolis, MD native Christian Siriano - has turned into an all hands on deck effort by designers and makers to help supply masks for hospital personnel.
Siriano reached out to New York Governor Andrew Cuomo via Twitter, offering the assistance of his sewing staff to help make face masks for medical workers:
We're in contact with @CSiriano. Appreciate his help so much.
Locally, Baltimore's Open Works - a non-profit 501(c)(3) maker space - announced that they had been contacted by local hospitals to use their resources to help make protective equipment for health workers. They in turn reached out to the community to help amass the resources needed to make the items. Anyone interested in helping should volunteer HERE.
In an attempt to help "frazzled parents, bored kids and other stressed out customers", the Anne Arundel County Public Library plans to offer a series of special virtual programs and additional resources over the next two weeks.

U2 has been on hiatus since the end of their Joshua Tree tour in 2019 - their last show was the band’s first-ever concert in India on December 15th, 2019.
But on March 17, 2020 - St. Patrick's Day - lead singer Bono took to the band's social media to debut a new song he wrote earlier this week and dedicated it to the people of Italy - who are currently on lockdown due to the coronavirus.
The song - which he sings from Dublin, Ireland and is apparently called 'Let Your Love Be Known' - was accompanied with a message: "For the Italians who inspired it ...for the Irish… for ANYONE who this St. Patrick’s day is in a tight spot and still singing. For the doctors, nurses, carers on the frontline, it’s you we’re singing to.”
“I walk through the streets of Dublin and no one was near.
Yes, I don’t know you
No I didn’t think I didn’t care
You live so very far away/Just across the square
You can’t touch, but you can sing across rooftops
Sing on the phone/Sing and promise me you won’t stop
Sing your love be known.”
Were inspired by the by the Italians who have been singing through open windows during their country's nationwide lockdown.
This is why so many people through many centuries fall in love with Italy

Some of you have traveled great distances and/or shelled out large sums of money to see us play and that has never been lost on me. So in this crazy and unprecedented time, I’d like to return the favor by coming to YOU.?
For the next few weeks I will be playing songs everyday from my home studio. We will be streaming on YouTube / Facebook at 4pm PST daily – link in bio. We’re still working out the details but I’m hoping to take some requests and maybe even have a guest or two stop by digitally. The first show will be tomorrow. It will assuredly be a little wonky and glitchy but we’re gonna do our best.
Billy Joel penned the song We Didn't Start The Fire after a conversation he had with a teenage Sean Lennon - who expressed his anxiety over the events transpiring in the late 80's. Joel recalls Lennon saying "Nothing happened in the Fifties and early Sixties" Billy's retort - “Whoa, didn’t you ever hear of the Korean War, the Suez Canal, the Hungarian Freedom Fighters?”
Joel started jotting down events from the past 4 decades and produced the song which would appear on on his 1989 album Storm Front:
Fast forward to 2020 - with the COVID-19 virus impacting the entire globe,
Matt Warburton (TV writer for The Simpsons and The Mindy Project.) sent out a tweet evoking the 1989 classic:
Today was like if “we didn’t start the fire” was a day.

Maryland's Governor Larry Hogan has taken some unprecedented steps in order to help curb the spread of Covid - 19 (the coronavirus). This included ordering the closure of all Maryland bars, restaurants, movie theaters and gyms.
While it should be noted that grocery stores, banks, pharmacies and other essential services will remain open - the closing of many business will have a devastating impact on our local economy.
Here are a few simple ways that you can help these businesses stay afloat during these times:
1. Order carry out from your favorite restaurants -Yes, the governor ordered the restaurants and bars to be closed to the public - many are planning on offering carry out and delivery. Give your favorite place a call and see what they are offering ... and don't forget to tip :) The service industry is getting hit hard too!
2. Order gift cards online from local businesses - buying a gift card now that you can use later puts money straight in the pocket of a local retailer that can help them pay employees, bills and more ... and for a limited time- Visit Annapolis is matching any gift card purchased
3. Support local musicians - many local musicians are having gigs closed - so they have resorted to hosting online concerts. Be sure to tune in, tip them online, and head to their website and buy some merch!
4. Buy tickets to future concerts - speaking of live music - there are plenty of concerts that haven't been cancelled ... check out your favorite venue's website and see what shows they have coming up and purchase tickets to something this summer or fall!
5. Promote your local businesses - even if you're not in a place to buy gift cards or merch or carry out - you can help spread the word that local businesses are open via your own social media ... share / like / retweet when you see a local business promoting their operation during this pandemic.
However - due to Corona Virus pandemic - the band decided to delay the on sale of the tickets for the tour ... but - they are doing something pretty cool for those feeling the effects of the national emergency - they will be donating a portion of their ticket income to charities helping out help people whose service industry jobs are impacted by the Coronavirus.
In a statement, the band said:
A quick note to say that tickets for our late summer/fall shows will not be going on sale just yet. The news is changing every hour around Coronavirus and, ultimately, we want you, our fans, to stay focused on prevention and remaining safe and cautious right now.
In addition, once we go on sale, we will be providing a portion of our ticketing income to local organizations who help people whose service industry jobs are impacted by the Coronavirus in each of our tour cities. We are taking this personally. Both we and our families have had these jobs and our hearts go out to those affected.
If anything changes again, we'll let you know; in the meantime, we're more excited than ever to sing these new songs with you, and can't wait to see you soon. Watch this space for the updated ticket information!
In addition to the new song Caution - the band also shared a Mr. Brightside handwashing video ... check out both below:
Effective at 5 p.m on Monday March 16, 2020, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan ordered the shutdown of all bars, restaurants, movie theaters and gyms in Maryland in an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
Grocery stores and pharmacies will also remain open. Carry-out and food delivery service will still be available
He said in his press conference (which you can view below):
“We’re being more aggressive, I think, than some people... (but) By these actions, we’re going to stop the spread and we’re going to save lives.”
The announcement comes one day after the governor ordered the indefinite closing of all casinos, racetracks and off-track betting parlors.
As of Monday (3/16/20) the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Maryland was 37.
“At the risk of stating the obvious, no one knows what things will look like in any given place over the next five weeks, but it is imperative that hard decisions for that time period need to be made right now, using current facts. There is no perfect solution. There is no easy answer...
So, we’ve decided that, this year, our best possible move is to change the date of Record Store Day to Saturday, June 20th. We think that this takes into consideration the recommendations of the many doctors and scientists lending their expertise to help in the Coronavirus pandemic, as well as the many other individuals at the World Health Organization (WHO), Center for Disease Control (CDC) and other agencies tasked with the difficult job of getting us through this crisis ...
We’re working with all of our partners and our stores to make this change as smooth as possible for everyone who participates in Record Store Day, including the customers, the record stores, the artists, labels and more...
Record Store Day happens everywhere, every year, and we want to hold our party when everyone can gather around safely to celebrate life, art, music and the culture of the indie record store"
You can find a list of all the notable releases here and our top picks here
But the band announced big plans for 2020 though ... they will release a new album - Imploding the Mirage: It’s out May 29 via Island ... and the record includes a few high profile contributors - including Lindsey Buckingham (on “Caution” which you can hear below), Weyes Blood, the War on Drugs’ Adam Granduciel, k.d. lang, Blake Mills, and Lucius!

Yesterday - local concert promoter IMP announced the postponement of all concerts until April 1. Today - North America's largest concert promoters - Live Nation and AEG have halted all large scale tours in the US and abroad until April amid COVID-19 fears.
“The world’s leading forces in live entertainment have come together to form a global task force to drive strategic support and unified direction ensuring precautionary efforts and ongoing protocol are in the best interest of artists, fans, staff, and the global community. At this time, we collectively recommend large scale events through the end of March be postponed. “We continue to support that small-scale events follow guidance set by their local government officials. We feel fortunate to have the flexibility to reschedule concerts, festivals, and live events as needed, and look forward to connecting fans with all their favorite artists and live entertainment soon.”

Your current tickets will be honored for the new dates”
Here are the new dates they reference :

Mike Campbell, of the Heartbreakers, Fleetwood Mac, and most recently the Dirty Knobs - has announced he has decided to postpone his upcoming tour to deal with “health issues.”
In a message to WRNR (Mike was scheduled to perform for a private group of listeners at Rams Head On Stage on March 17th), Mike said:
Hey everyone, Mike here.
On Sunday night my doctors discovered some health issues which while fully treatable, need to be addressed before going out on tour.
The good news, well really it’s great news, is that I’m going to be just fine.
The bad news, and I say this with much frustration, is the tour which was scheduled to start next week will need to be postponed and rescheduled for September. Subsequently, we’ll also need to postpone the album release until September 18th.
We can’t be at New Orleans’ Jazzfest this April but the already announced shows from June onwards with Chris Stapleton and Zac Brown Band will go on as planned.
If you bought tickets to any of our headline shows, they will still be good for the rescheduled dates which are listed below. If you are unable to make the new date, you can obtain a refund at your point of purchase and we hope to see you another time soon.
I know that many of you made plans to travel to the upcoming shows and I’m so sorry that those plans have been upended.
However, health is the most important thing and I want to bring you the best show possible. I truly appreciate everyone’s understanding.
The Knobs and I are eagerly looking forward to seeing you and sharing more music with you, just a bit later than we had hoped.
Mike Campbell is a member of the rock elite. He co-wrote so many of the Tom PEtty and the Heeartbreakers hits, including ‘Runnin’ Down a Dream,” “Refugee” and “Here Comes My Girl.” He's also worked with Fleetwood Mac, Don Henley, Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond, Bob Seger, Randy Newman and Stevie Nicks. Not a bad resume!
Sending you all the positive vibes for a speedy recovery Mike!

Credit: Ray Di Pietro
For over 40 years, this Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has flipped genres like rock, punk, and new wave on their heads becoming both a “Liverpool legend” (The Washington Post) and an enduring American favorite.Elvis Costello & The Imposters will perform on Wednesday,June 10. For over 40 years, this Rock and Roll Hall of Famer has flipped genres like rock, punk, and new wave on their heads becoming both a “Liverpool legend” (The Washington Post) and an enduring American favorite.
And on August 8 - we get an amazing double bill - with Grace Potter and The Marcus King Band (tickets)
Credit: Pamela Neal
Described as “one of the greatest living voices in rock today” (Spin), Grace Potter returns to Wolf Trap in support of her emotionally revealing second solo album, Daylight (2019). Taking audiences on a mystical ride, Potter will perform a mix of solo favorites and Nocturnals hits like “Empty Heart,” “Love is Love,” “Stars,” and “Paris (Ooh La la).”
On July 30 - Greensky Bluegrass and The Wood Brothers come to the Filene Center (tickets)
Credit: Dylan Langille
The members of Greensky Bluegrass have created their own version of bluegrass music, mixing the acoustic stomp of a stringband with the rule-breaking spirit of rock ’n’ roll. “The members are virtuosos in the genre. Live shows are often transcendent musical experiences. When the band takes off, it can rock like a countrified hurricane” (NPR).
Also announced - Pitbull (8/30) and Fantasia (7/26)
The event will celebrate the 25th anniversary of Grohl's one-man-band-demo-turned-platinum-debut-album - Foo Fighters.
But in true Dave Grohl fashion - he's making this party the biggest event in town. In addition to the patented Foo Fighters rockathon set ... D.C. JAM will feature a full day and night of performances by ambassadors from points all over the musical map - including special guests Chris Stapleton, Pharrell Williams, The Go-Go’s and Band Of Horses. Also slated to perform are Durand Jones & The Indications, Regrettes, Beach Bunny and Radkey.
And if you need a reprieve from the rock - D.C. JAM will feature side attractions including a BBQ Competition, a Tailgate Party, Rides, Games and more !
If you are unfamiliar with the performance - it features Byrne - barefoot - performing alongside a troupe of musicians playing wireless intruments. It is really amazing. For the show - Byrne performed the Talking Heads classic - Once in a Lifetime and the BPA song he's featured on - Toe Jam.
