Chris Stapleton is the latest musician to make a Game of Thrones Cameo [PICS]

SPOILER ALERT! This post is about the 4/28 episode of Game of Thrones - the Battle of Winterfell and if you haven’t watched yet .. you've been warned

There were hundreds and hundreds of extras on this past week's episode of Game of Thrones... most of them died in the Battle of Winterfell....like The Night King, Theon Greyjoy, Jorah Mormont, Melisandre, Eddison Tollett, Beric Dondarrion (and his flaming sword), Lyanna Mormont ... but while you were busy trying to adjust the brightness on your TV - you might have missed the latest celebrity / musician cameo on the show!

Country singer Chris Stapleton, along with his bass player J.T. Cure and their tour manager, played some of the many fallen Winterfell soldiers that the Night King turned into his zombie White Walkers at the Battle of Winterfell.

Stapleton told Rolling Stone

“I was like, you know, I would gladly fly to wherever in the world just to be a small part and get to watch that show going down...They were gracious enough to let me come participate that way.  They knew we weren’t actors, so the direction was basically, we’re going to place you, and when we tell you to, open your eyes. And they trained us on how White Walkers are supposed to stand up and move when they’re first waking up. We had a crash course in that.”

The scene was brief but Chris’ wife, Morgane, posted on instagram with a helpful freeze frame:

Woodstock 50 Has Been Canceled

It seemed like a good idea at the time ... curate a massive festival with a killer lineup to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Music & Arts Fair

There were skeptics about it - how could organizers pull this off by themselves - without the help of mega concert producers like AEG or LiveNation ...

But they had funding, bands were getting paid - things were looking good ...

But then the foundations started to crack ... ticket sales were delayed ... permits weren't acquired ... and today - festival organizers announced the inevitable - the event is being canceled, saying they "don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name"

Organizers, along with Dentsu Aegis Network, which is funding the festival, released the following statement:

“It’s a dream for agencies to work with iconic brands and to be associated with meaningful movements. We have a strong history of producing experiences that bring people together around common interests and causes which is why we chose to be a part of the Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival.  But despite our tremendous investment of time, effort and commitment, we don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name while also ensuring the health and safety of the artists, partners and attendees... As a result and after careful consideration, Dentsu Aegis Network’s Amplifi Live, a partner of Woodstock 50, has decided to cancel the festival.  As difficult as it is, we believe this is the most prudent decision for all parties involved.”

Paul Rudd & Jimmy Fallon's Recreated Dead Or Alive

A lot of people will be seeing Paul Rudd on the big screen this weekend in some movie called Avengers: Endgame.

But the real masterpiece from Rudd this weekend comes from The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Fallon and Rudd have done a near-perfect shot-for-shot recreation of the 1984 synthpop jam “You Spin Me Round (Like A Record)” by Dead or Alive.  Check it out below - as well as some other Rudd / Fallon classic collabs like Styx’s “Too Much Time On My Hands” and Go West’s “The King Of Wishful Thinking".

Hear the the first track from David Gray's Acoustic EP - Gold In A Brass Age- Ground Control Acoustic Sessions

Not only will David Gray embark on a massive world  tour this spring (including a show at The Anthem on May 30 / see full tour dates below),  the English singer-songwriter is set to release an acoustic EP, Gold In A Brass Age – Ground Control Acoustic Sessions this summer. Hear the first track off the album, “Mallory” below.

Gold In A Brass Age – Ground Control Acoustic Sessions was recorded at David’s home studio with producer Ben de Vries, using nothing more than his acoustic guitar and upright piano. The tracks have a freshness and vitality for being recorded in such a direct and uncomplicated way. The songs are stripped back to their bare essentials, bringing the imagery of the lyrics to the forefront.

Gray says:

“Many of the songs had never really been performed in that way. So, it’s heartening to know, that even on a record where production and sound plays such a major part in the structuring of the music, the songs can still stand up by themselves.”

Bruce Springsteen Releases Scenic Video For New Single

Well, you don't expect to hear these two names in the same sentence ... but Bruce Springsteen and Taylor swift both made waves today - each dropping new songs on the world at midnight.  We're not to concerned about Tay-Tay's track, but Bruce Springsteen's new single, “Hello Sunshine" is well worth the listen.

Springsteen himself doesn't appear in the video but it does feature an old car with New Jersey (of course) plates traveling through the desert.

Bruce says the new album, Western Stars, was inspired by 60s/70s California musicians like Burt Bacharach and Glen Campbell ... and the influence is very evident on “Hello Sunshine,”

Says the Boss:

“This record is a return to my solo recordings featuring character driven songs and sweeping, cinematic orchestral arrangements.  It’s a jewel box of a record.”

Can't wait to hear some more ... but for now - enjoy the first track

The Black Keys Announce 'Let

Auerbach says the album is back basics for the Black Keys:

“When we’re together we are The Black Keys, that’s where that real magic is, and always has been since we were sixteen.  The record is like a homage to electric guitar. We took a simple approach and trimmed all the fat like we used to.”

We now have a second single from the album (Lo/Hi was released last month) … Eagle Birds.

Maggie Rogers performs Say It on Fallon w/ Questlove on drums <3 [WATCH]

Eastern Shore native Maggie Rogers is out there living her best life this week... she's celebrating her 25th birthday (I think I spent mine at The Greene Turtle  ¯_(?)_/¯ ), she performed at Coachella, and now had 2 national television appearances ... the Today Show on her birthday (4/25) and was on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon where she performed Say It with a little help from Questlove on drums!

What the heck is going on with Woodstock 50? What we know (and don't) so far

So what the heck is going on with Woodstock 50?

About a month ago organizers of the festival, marking the 50th Anniversary of the original three days of peace love and music released a stacked three day lineup promising details to follow …

And as of now - the only real details we have are that the festival is ‘scheduled’ to take place August 16 – 18 and that tickets were going on sale April 22nd.  Well, that was 2 days ago now – and tickets still aren’t on sale … we don’t even know how much they will be!

Here’s what we do know …

  • According to festival co-founder, via a Bloomberg interview, tickets will cost “around” $450
  • There will only be 3 day passes sold – to avoid traffic congestion issues
  • The capacity has dropped from 100K to 75K according to a permit application
  • The Black Keys have backed out of the show – due to “scheduling conflicts”
  • They’ve had issues booking other bands, including Bruno Mars.

Booking talent has been difficult. Lang tried to lock down Bruno Mars to do a Sly tribute, but the performer was unavailable. And his attempt to nab Lady Gaga proved unsuccessful after she rode the hype from A Star Is Born right into a Las Vegas residency.

  • In the coming years - Lang to take the festival to a different country Lollapalooza style, including Japan, Brazil and Spain.

How about we lock down some details on Woodstock 50 before thinking about Woodstock 51-53?  OK?

Members of Foo Fighters Queen have collaborated to finally finish Dennis Wilson's '`Holy Man [LISTEN]

Back in 1977 - Beach Boy Dennis Wilson his one and only solo albumPacific Ocean Blue.   There was however - one unfinished song - Holy Man .. and in 2009 - Foo Fighters Drummer Taylor Hawkins added vocals to the song, but it remained unfinished ... until now - 10 years later -Roger Taylor and Brian May of Queen have contributed music and vocals to it as well and the song is finished ... you can hear it below:

From the Foo Fighters":

10 years after Taylor Hawkins added vocals to Dennis Wilson’s long unfinished 1977 instrumental track, “Holy Man,” guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor of Queen have once again brought new life to the track.

Exploring Game of Thrones decision to have Florence + The Machine perform "Jenny of Oldstones"

While (most of - what's going on Cersi?) the main characters on Game of Thrones prepared for their impending battle with the Night King's Army at Winterfell - Poderick went all  open mic night on us - belting out a beautiful version of “Jenny of Oldstones”.

The song  "is an adaptation of “Jenny’s song” from (George R. R.) Martin’s novels, which recounts the tale of a Targaryen prince who forgoes his birthright to marry Jenny of Oldstones, a beautiful commoner who wove flowers into her hair. The song was written for the show by Benioff, Weiss, Ramin Djawadi and Martin."

Hmmm ...  consider GoT conspiracy theorists triggered!!

But what was more interesting about the episode was that contemporary artist Florence + the Machine performed the song again over the closign credits. Florence + The Machine is the only contemporary artist to appear in the final season of show and the  was personally approached by the show’s creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss

Benioff and Weiss said in a statement:

“We’ve always been huge fans of Florence’s music, and the season two trailer with her song ‘Seven Devils’ was possibly the most powerful we’ve ever had.  So the opportunity to hear her otherworldly voice on our show was always at the forefront of our minds. We’re still pleasantly shocked that she agreed to sing ‘Jenny of Oldstones,’ and we’re in love with the result.”

Florence Welch had this to say

“When I first heard the song it sounded like a Celtic lullaby to me.  Celtic music has always been in my blood, so I felt like I could do something with it. The magic and ritual in Game of Thrones, not to mention the costumes, have always appealed to me. I am honoured to be a part of the final season.”

Don't miss Florence and the Machine June 3 at Merriweather Post Pavilion

Dave Grohl and Brandi Carlile Gave a Pop Up Performance at Seattle's Pike Place Market [VIDEO]

In case you missed it while you were in an Easter Candy Sugar Coma - Brandi Carlile and Dave Grohl showed up at Seattle's Pike Place Market with Carlile’s twin backing guitarist/vocalists, Phil and Tim Hanseroth and treated shoppers a 15- to 20-minute acoustic set - that included a cover of The Beatles’ “Let It Be” and a rendition of Foo Fighters’ “Times Like These”.

Carlile, a native of Ravensdale, Washington, decided out of the blue to visit her old busking haunt, and invited her friend Dave to join her on her nostalgic joureny .... Gee, I wonder where she got the idea for a Pop Up Show ? wink

Lucie Silvas explains the story behind the song Smokin' Your Weed on 4/20

In the 15 year history of the WRNR Private Artist Showcase - there have been some good showcases, some not so good showcases (no names mentioned) and some amazing showcases.  This past Saturday, Lucie Silvas came to Rams Head On Stage and gave one of the most amazingly memorable showcase performaces we have ever seen!

Photo courtesey of Kelsey Cochran photography

Since the show was on April 20th - 4/20 - the traditional stoner holiday - it was only appropriate that Lucie performed her song - Smoking Your Weed.  To make it even more special - she brought her husband, collaborator, and Deale MD native - John Osborne of the Brothers Osborne on stage to explain the song's meaning and perform it with her!

The TV series Game of Thrones has employeed thousands of extras over the past 8.1 seasons ... They may not make the millions of dollars the stars of the show make - but they certainly put in the effort.  Many of them have named their characters and created back stories to their character's life.

There's also been a lot of celebrity cameos on the show - notably Ed Sheeran, Sigur Ros, Of Monsters and Men, Steve Love, and Mastadon to name a few ....

AND - if you had a keen eye - you caught two cameos on episode one of season 8 -  It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’s Rob McElhenney and Silicon Valley’s Martin Starr  - YEP - Mac and Gilfoyle - were on the show ... briefly ...  Missed it - check it out below:

The Cranberries Release 'In The End' - Title Track from Final Album [LISTEN]

Some of the last lyrics we will ever hear from the Irish songstress and lead singer of The Cranberries Dolores O’Riordan sound reminscent of hits like “Linger” and “Dreams,” - the songs that the world first fell in love with.

The band will release their final album, In The End on April 26  ... the album will posthumously feature vocals from the late singer pulled from demos recorded prior to her passing in January of 2018.

Drummer Fergal Lawler had this to say of the album

“What a way to finish the record. To have ‘In The End’ as the last song is just perfect.  Lyrically, it is self-explanatory,”

Guitarist added -

“Lyrically, it is self-explanatory, It speaks for itself. It just is a lovely feeling and it’s a gorgeous song.”

Take a listen and judge for yourself:

Get Inside Courtney Barnett's Head (Literally) With Her 'Everybody Here Hates You' Video

Courtney Barnett might not be the first person you'd think to call to discuss your social anxiety or insecurity - but her new single (released on Record Store Day 2019) “Everybody Here Hates You” seems to speak directly to anyone who's ever found it difficult to get out of their own head-space... while also embodying her classic slacker rock vibe

The video - directed by award winner Danny Cohen - takes us literally inside Barnett's brain - giving a new meaning to the lyric “You say, ‘It’s only in your head / They’re probably thinking the same thing.’”

Catch Courtney Barnett at The Anthem in Washington DC on June 19.  Tickets available HERE

The stunning new track features Beck’s unmistakable raw acoustic slide guitar and harmonica playing is a collaboration with Pharrell Williams, who contributes drums, keyboards and mumbles.

27 Year Old Pearl Jam Footage Has Surfaced [WATCH]

The 90's were one of the most influencial decades in modern music (we believe that statement so much - we dedicate our Saturday nights to it with the program Stupid and Contagious) ... and one of the most popular genres to emerge from the decade was grunge.

And in 1992 - a little band from Seattle called Pearl Jam embarked on a tour to support their album TEN.  The album didn't catch on immediately - but it eventually went 13x platinum (it actually outsold Nirvana’s Nevermind in America) and helped launch the band's career making them one of the biggest acts on the planet!

27 years ago today - the band played at the Trocadero Theatre in Philadelphia ... check out fan footage from the show below - including classics like “Jeremy,” “Even Flow” and “Alive,”  .... shout out to whoever lugged their camcorder to the show!

Billie Eilish's Strange Addiction Is The Scarn?

Billie Eilish is taking the world by storm (it helps when someone like Dave Grohl annoints you as the next coming of Nirvana!) playing sold out shows around the world ... in fact - her new LP, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?, had the year’s second-best debut week after Ariana Grande (!)

But there's an interesting story behind one of the albums tracks ... it turns out the beat for the song 'My Strange Addiction' comes straight from an episode of  The Office.

Charles Holmes explains below (read the full article HERE) -

Is The Clash's self titled debut album the greatest punk albums of all time?

Hard to believe that it has been 42 years since The Clash released their self titled debut album on CBS Records (April 8, 1977)

To this day, the record is still widely celebrated as one of the greatest punk albums of all time and  the band went on to become one of the most influential punk band of their era (or all time?)

Here's a few videos of the band performing some classic tracks from the album at a show at the Capitol Theatre in Passaic, N.J.

Jeff Tweedy Shares first single from upcoming solo album

Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy has announced plans to release a new album, WARMER.  The album will be initially released as special edition on vinyl for Record Store Day 2019 (Saturday, April 13).  But today we got to hear  the first single, Family Ghost.

The album is a follow up to last year's WARM - Tweedy's first ever solo album.

When asked about the relationship between the two albums, Tweedy said -

“At some point I separated the songs from the WARM/WARMER session into two records with individual character, but still tried to keep the overall tone and texture of the combined session consistent.  In a lot of ways these two records could have been released as a double LP. WARMER means as much to me as WARM and might just as easily have been released as the first record of the pair.”

Vampire Weekend Share 2 more Father of the Bride Singles, "This Life" and "Unbearably White"

Today - we got the final two singles - “This Life” and “Unbearably White,” the fifth and sixth singles from their forthcoming fourth album.

“This Life” has that familiar jangly VW sound ... with some classic Ezra Koenig lyrics - like "I know pain is as natural as the rain, I just thought it didn't rain in California"

“Unbearably White” is a little more subdued and the video accompanying it is just that ... unbearably white...

The Cure announce new album, inevitable US Tour for Disintegration, perform at RNR Hall of Fame [VIDEO]

Not only were The Cure were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Friday night at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, they also announced that they are currently working on a new album that "will delight our hardcore fans. And probably really, really infuriate everyone else. At my age, I’m still doom and gloom" !!!!!

Because it’s the anniversary of Disintegration, I was thinking about how we did that, and how we turned that into something and what my mindset was. A key part of it was everyone being away from home, being away from everything they loved and being in one place at the same time. So for the first time in 20 years, we went into a studio — we actually went into the studio where they did “Bohemian Rhapsody,” funnily enough. It’s a great studio in the middle of nowhere. We just played music for three weeks. And it’s great. I know everyone says that. But it really is fucking great.

It’s so dark. It’s incredibly intense. And I’ve waited 10 years to do something that means something. It’s going to work really well. I’m not sure how much of it we’ll play this summer at festivals. It’s not really festival music. The songs are like 10 minutes, 12 minutes long. We recorded 19 songs. So I have no idea what to do now. The others are saying, “Triple album!” I’m saying, no let’s not. I’ll pick six or maybe eight songs and do like a single album. But I think it will delight our hardcore fans. And probably really, really infuriate everyone else. At my age, I’m still doom and gloom.

Smith also acknowledged that it is inevitable” that they’ll bring Disintegration to North America as well, probably closer to Christmas !! Thank you Santa!

“We’re holding home theaters in New York and Los Angeles, but I kind of feel like we should do it in a bigger venue. I’d like to a big show with it, really. It’s a bigger album. I think when we did the first three albums we did three nights at the Beacon in New York. It was much more punky. We were trying to recreate that vibe. But I think Disintegration is just big. So we need to do somewhere that’s just big.”

During the ceremony - The Cure played a short set of fan favorites -

A Forest?
Lovesong?
Just Like Heaven?
