Jenny Lewis Debuts New Single 'Wasted Youth' on The Late Show

Jenny Lewis was the musical guest on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday night and on the show - she debuted the latest single from her latest solo album, On The Line, titled  “Wasted Youth”.  Aside from the "effortlessly lighthearted" performance - we're more enamored with the stage show ... getting us excited for her show at The Anthem on September 5!

Lewis plays a pink and blue piano with her signature pink microphone ... among an 8 piece ensemble - all wearing very Jenny Lewis-esque uniforms - blue sweatshirts with skulls.

Check out the upbeat performance below

Brittany Howard Announces Fall Tour Dates, Shares Details and Opening Track for Solo Album

It's been a while since we've heard from The Alabama Shakes ... and lately we've been hearing rumors that front woman / lead guitar player Brittany Howard was going to be releasing a solo album ... and it could lead to the end of the band ... Well - good news / bad news.

Brittany Howard is indeed releasing a solo album - Jamie- on Sept. 20 via ATO Records.  She also shared the opening track - History Repeats (hear it below)

“‘History Repeats’ is as much a personal song as it is a song about us as a human species. Our times of success may propel us forward, but our repeating failures hold us back from evolving into harmony,”

More good news - she will be playing TWO nights at the 930 Club in DC as part of a short run of shows

Vampire Weekend Add The Doors To Their Cover Song Repertoire [VIDEO]

Vampire Weekend seem like they are having loads of fun while on tour in support of their latest album - Father of the Bride.  They have been taking requests from audience members (only if they are wearing bucket hats), playing pop up shows in parks, and playing a bunch of random cover songs in their sets ...

Most recently - they played Peace Frog by the Doors at a show in Charlotte NC on June 22.  Check out the fan capured video below - as well as some pics from their June 23rd set at Firefly ... all this to get you prepped for their August 29th show at Merriweather Post Pavilion!

Hear Manchester Orchestra Cover Frightened Rabbits' 'My Backwards Walk'

Frightened Rabbit have taken a unique approach to revisiting their seminal album - The Midnight Organ Fight - by releasing Tiny Changes: A Celebration of The Midnight Organ Fight, an album of covers of songs from the classic album, recorded last year in celebration of the album’s 10th anniversary.

The album features covers by Craig Finn (The Hold Steady), Ben Gibbard (Death Cab for Cutie), and Aaron Dessner (The National) with CHVRCHES’ Lauren Mayberry, and Manchester Orchestra.

The surviving members of Frightened Rabbit said in a statement:

To celebrate the 10 year anniversary/birthday of The Midnight Organ Fight we wanted to avoid the usual approach of just repressing the vinyl or rereleasing the same record with different artwork or putting out demos that were never meant to be heard by anyone other than the band and maybe our parents. We came up with the idea of asking some pals to record their own interpretations of the songs on the album. It felt like a good way to celebrate everyone who had been a part of the last ten years of the band and we didn’t have to do any work ourselves! Every single person on Tiny Changes has been a part of our lives and Frightened Rabbit in a special way over the last ten years. We’ve shared studios, vans, bars, dressing rooms and probably even underwear with some of these people and that’s why this record is so special to us.

Scott was a vital part of bringing this album together and it’s something he was very excited about and worked hard to bring to life. He listened to and approved every track on there with us and he had already started preparing the artwork which you’ll see on there (if you buy it). This is a celebration of a record that connected thousands of people to Scott and connected thousands of people to each other and ten years on it is still managing to do it. Scott would probably have put in some joke here about when the album hits puberty and starts rebelling by smoking weed and getting things pierced. We’re not that funny so instead let’s just raise a glass, blow out the candles and make a wish.

We wish the album was available for pre-order tomorrow and that it will come out July 12th and you’ll be able to listen to two covers of Modern Leper straight away when you pre-order! Now we’ve told you it probably won’t come true but we’ll keep everything crossed for you.

Liam Gallagher shares video for 'Shockwave', explains his new album will be be even better than his last

It appears that there is little to no hope of there ever being an Oasis reunion ... so for now we will have to live vicariously through the solo projects of Gallagher brothers ...

Of course Noel has his High Flying Birds - who will be at Merriweather Post Pavillion with the Smashing Pumpkins on July 17

And now Liam is back with new music - with a new album - Why Me? Why Not. - due out in September and a banger of a first single - Shockwave (see the video below)

Gallagher explains:

“I wrote some songs on my own for the last album, but this time it’s all co-writes. Reason being is I want it to be even better than As You Were. I know my strengths and I know my limitations. I’m an ok songwriter, but I’m a great singer and frontman. I want the second album to be a step-up because the hardest thing to do is to make something the same, only better. So that’s what we’ve done.”

Right now - Liam only has a few tour dates announced - openning for the The Who on the West Coast  ... hopefully a proper tour to support the album will follow ...

Hear SPOON

Austin’s Indie Ambassadors – SPOON – have announced that they will release a greatest hits album called Everything Hits At Once.  The collection includes 12 classic Spoon singles – as well as a new song – No Bullets Spent.

Here’s the track list … anything they missed?

01 “I Turn My Camera On”
02 “Do You”
03 “Don’t You Evah”
04 “Inside Out”
05 “The Way We Get By”
06 “The Underdog”
07 “Hot Thoughts”
08 “I Summon You”
09 “Rent I Pay”
10 “You Got Yr Cherry Bomb”
11 “Got Nuffin”
12 “Everything Hits At Once”
13 “No Bullets Spent”

Lead singer Britt Daniels explained the concept behind the album  -

The idea of doing a best-of came to us a couple times. First I wasn’t sure how I felt about it but at some point I remembered that when I got my first Cure record it was Standing On A Beach. When I got my first New Order record, it was Substance. That was how I met those bands, and I moved backwards from there but I still listen to those comps. I love a greatest hits LP when it’s done well. It can be a thing unto itself.

Listen to “No Bullets Spent” below and check out the  digital cover art (which is different from the physical cover art above),  and see Spoon’s upcoming tour dates  - which includes a date on 8/22 at Merriweather Post with Beck and Cage the Elephant!

Watch John Misty Perform His Rejected A Star Is Born Track

Here's something you may not know - God's Favorite Customer -Josh Tillman aka Father John Misty - had a tracked rejected from the soundtrackfor the hit film A Star is Born starring Bradley Cooper and LAdy Gaga.

FJM closed out a recent show in Minneapolis with the song .. and doesn't seem to bent out of shape about the song being cut from the soundtrack - bantering:

“That would’ve sucked. There is no … I’ve seen that movie. There’s really no place in that movie for that song. Unless he was bombing at Coachella or something. The sequel? Now we’re talking.”

He adds that he will be adding the song to his sets ... so maybe we'll see FJM perform the song at Merriweather Post on Friday (June 21)

Here's the FULL show - but you can skip to the  1:20:36 to watch his rejected A Star Is Born track

Whaaaat - Lorde's Third Album Is Coming Soon

The last we heard from Lorde was in 2018 when - she was finishing off her world tour in support of her sophomore album - Melodrama - and told fans she planned to spend her time "eating toast, swimming and teaching herself how to play the piano" in a newsletter.

Well - Lorde is back - apparently ... she took to Instagram to acknowledge and reflect on the 2nd anniversary of Melodrama and to announce that a new record is 'in the oven'!

“I was such a baby making that work, lots of emotions and learning so much all the time ...It’s a good life you’ve given me. Thankyou thankyou. Third one in the oven.”

Speaking of the November newsletter - she mentioned her next album would be “born around the piano in my house” and “kept simple.”

Here's  the full post from Lorde:

Dave Matthews Band Re-Releases 'Come Tomorrow' Now With More Brandi Carlile: Listen

The title track to last year's Dave Matthews Band record 'Come Tomorrow' featured backing vocals from singer song writer Brandi Carlile ... now - a year after the album's release - DMB has re-released the track - but this time Carlile and Matthews switch back and forth on lead vocals - giving the track a much more conversational feel. The pair sing in harmony, complimenting each other with ease.

Give it a listen below - and don't forget to scoop up tickets to see Dave Matthews Band at Jiffy Lube Live on July 20

Is this random phone number the gateway to hearing new music from Thom Yorke?

Thom Yorke has been playing some new music on tour recently ... prompting fans to wonder if there's a new album on the horizon  ...

And now - some super sleuths have figured out that some random ads for something called  “Anima Technologies” - which have appeared in multiple London trains, on phone booths in Milan, and in The Dallas Observer (?!),  - prompt people to call a phone number (916-619-6192) that will retrieve their forgotten dreams ... and at the end of the bizarre message - a portion of Thom Yorke’s song “Not the News” is played. The unreleased track is one Yorke has been performing on tour lately.

So go ahead and dial up 916-619-6192 and hear for yourself ...

Thom has also announced a slew of solo concert dates - nothing in the DMV yet though

Cage The Elephant forced to cancel tour dates after 'on stage accident'

Cage the Elephant have been forced to cancel the remainder of their UK and European tour after guitarist Nick Bockrath suffered an on stage injury (ruptured PCL, torn ACL, fractured tibia, damaged meniscus) and will require immediate surgury

From the band:

“We regret to inform the fans that Cage The Elephant will be cancelling the upcoming European tour dates from 12 June to 20 June. Sadly, our guitarist Nick Bockrath had an accident on stage at “PINKPOP” and injured his leg badly  ... He tried to play through two shows, but he now requires immediate surgery and is currently getting the medical attention he needs. All ticket refunds will be available at original point of purchase (with the exception of Isle of Wight Festival). We will keep you posted on future dates.”

So far the dates cancelled include:

12 June – Amsterdam, NLD at Melkweg Max
14 June – London, UK at Heaven
15 June – Isle of Wight, UK at Isle of Wight Festival
17 June – Edinburgh, UK at The Liquid Room
18 June – Birmingham, UK at O2 Institute2
20 June – Paris, FRA at Batacla

No word on any of the US tour dates being cancelled - including their August 22nd show at Merriweather Post Pavilion

The Raconteurs Release New Single/Video - 'Bored And Razed' [Watch]

As we count down the days until the release of Help Us Stranger, the first new record from The Raconteurs (and of course their August 17 show at The Anthem in DC) - the band has been kind enough to feed us a steady (as she goes) sampling from the album.

So far they have released four songs from the record - “Sunday Driver”, “Now That You’re Gone”, “Help Me Stranger”, and a cover of Donovan’s “Hey Gyp (Dig The Slowness)”.

Today - the band released a video for the song “Bored and Razed” ... enjoy the video as we continue to get excited for the July 21st release of the full album

Vampire Weekend Covered 'Parks And Recreation' Theme in Indiana [VIDEO]

They didn’t cover Mouse Rats’ “5,000 Candles in the Wind” – but  Vampire Weekend had a few surprises in store for their Indiana audience over the weekend … in the middle of performing M79 they broke into a cover of the Parks And Recreation theme song.

Parks And Recreation is set in Pawnee, Indiana, and  Ezra Koenig has a kid with Rashida Jones, who played Ann Perkins in the show.

Also - uring the encore -  Ezra Koenig announced that during the tour - they would only take requests from people wearing bucket hats ... so when a bucket hatted fan requested "Pizza Party" - a goofy rap song from Koenig’s (Pre-Vampire Weekend) band L’Homme Run, he obliged and went on tp rap a verse from the song a cappella.  Not sure why the fan didn't request some Mouse Rat ... but whatever

Johnny Depp covers David Bowie

So how's Johnny Depp stay busy when he's not being Grindelwald or Jack Sparrow?

Apparently he heads to the recording studio with his musical supergroup, Hollywood Vampires (which includes Alice Cooper and Joe Perry) and lays down an amazing cover of one of David Bowie’s biggest hits, “Heroes.”

Videos from a 2018 session have surfaced of the group in Berlin’s Hansa Studios working on the song - check it out below

18 Hours Of Radiohead

When Radiohead released the 20th Anniversary of their classic album, OK Computer, it came with the expected assortment of B-sides and rarities - including the songs “Lift,” “I Promise,” and “Man Of War,” - that had previously only existed as live bootlegs. And the Radiohead world was happy

But now, a new treasure trove of Radiohead magic has been unearted - as a user on the Radiohead subreddit has noted the 18 Minidiscs (yes - MINIdiscs) billed as the entire OK Computer sessions have leaked online.  The lead supposedly contians nearly 18 hours of demos, alternate takes, and early live recordings - including a previously unreleased version of “Lift,”

We're not going to post the link to the leaked audio .. but its out there ... we will post a 14 page memo that redditors have put together detailing what is on the tapes though ..

Things of note:

The leak of Radiohead's OK Computer includes a "f*cking nuts" alternate version of "Lift" as well as early iterations of "Airbag", "The Tourist", and "Paranoid Android".

On disc three contains a session recording from a radio session in Maryland - most likely WHFS

3:37 Motion Picture Soundtrack (electric guitar, solo Thom so far). According to redditor /u/EsotericCD, this is from the 4/10/96 “Just Passin’ Thru” radio session in Rockville, MD, but is a “FAR FAR better sounding version of it than the off-air recording we used to have.” Thanks for the ID!

Jack White and Jack Black - meet face to face finally!

They've duked it out on Celebrity Death Match ...

Inspired thousands of #JackGray posts

They both attended the 2006 MTV VMAs ... and Jack Black even  introduced White’s The White Stripes during a show in 2007 ... but there has never been any photpgraphic evidence of Jack White and Jack Black being in the same place at the same time ...

Until now -

Both Jack's bands are on tour in Europe (White with The Racontuers and Black withTenacious D) and  at some point this  week, the pair ran into one another at a Tenacious D show it appears - based on the band's Instagram post - documenting the historic moment of two meeting (along with Tenacious D's Kyle Gass) ... Of course the comment was hilarious with The D decalring -  “We hired a new merch guy!”

Watch the Dramatic Trailer For 'Mystify' - the New Michael Hutchence Documentary

Rock and Roll is taking over the silver screen ... following the success of the bio pics Bohemian Rhapsody (Queen) and Rocketman (Elton John) .. rock docs seem to be the next wave of rock and roll movies.  Martin Scorsese's Rolling Thunder Revue will focus on Bob Dylan - and now 22 years after his death, there’s a new rock documentary (and soundtrack!) coming out on the late INXS frontman - Michael Hutchence.

The film, which contains rare archive footage and insight from friends, lovers, family, colleagues and Hutchence himself, is described as: "a journey into the heart and soul of Michael Hutchence, internationally renowned lead-singer of INXS, a complex and shy man who spent the bulk of his life in the public eye, rarely revealing his true self to anyone except his very close friends"

The soundtrack features two previously unheard Hutchence recordings.

The soundtrack is due out on July 5, but a release date for the film has not yet been announced.

They played a bewautifully harmonious set of 5 songs that spanned their career - including the new single - When Am I Gonna Lose You - a song about:

'when you feel something is way to good to be true almost in your life, and you just know that you are going to mess it up or fate is going to intervene ... and it's kind of a sad name for a love song- but it actually is a love song'

Your First Look at Martin Scorsese's 'Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story'

The first trailers for Martin Scorsese's Rolling Thunder Revue are out and it looks to be truly special ... look for it on Netflix on June 12

The project, “part documentary, part concert film, part fever dream” - features rare on camera interviews with Dylan, concert footage, and some classic Scorsese cinematography

According to Netflix:

Masterfully capturing both an icon and a nation in transition, director Martin Scorsese tells the tale using footage that was abandoned for decades, now gorgeously restored, taking viewers into the heart of a freewheeling, electrifying musical gamble. Inspired by Dylan’s own restless spirit, Scorsese performs some breathtaking sleight of hand, summoning nostalgic fantasists, boxers, magicians, starlets and testifiers of all stripes, and exploding the boundaries of what makes a conventional documentary.
