In 2017 - a Weezer fan named 'Mary' started a simple campaign - she wanted her favorite band to add a song to the repertoire of covers ... Africa by Toto.

What started as a tweet turned into a movement  ... and after gaining popularity - the band obliged - and recorded a cover of the song ... made a video for it, with Weird Al Yankovic ... and the song went on to be the band's first number-one hit on Billboard 's Alternative Songs chart in 10 years, and their first entry on the Hot 100 in nine years, and the cover went on to sell 500,000 copies - making it a certified gold record by the RIAA.
