It appears that the Bee Gees aren't the only disco band Dave Grohl loves ...
In a new interview for the Paramount+ show From Cradle To Stage, the Foo Fighters / Dee Gees frontman talks about the disco beats that inspired his drumming when he was in Nirvana.
“I’m the most basic fucking drummer .. If you listen to Nevermind … the Nirvana record … I pulled so much stuff from the Gap Band and Cameo and [Chic]’s Tony Thompson on every one of those songs. All that … that’s old disco!” The show helpfully plays a bit of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” followed by a bit of the Gap Band’s 1982 hit “You Dropped A Bomb On Me."
Grohl continued
"Nobody makes the connection. I told Tony Thompson that. He came to my house for a barbecue with somebody and I was like, ‘Man, I just want to thank you because I owe you so much. I’ve been ripping you off my whole life.’ He goes: ‘I know.'”
Dave also admits in the interview - all he wanted to do as a kid was to be part of a drum line in the school band -- only he couldn't read music so he was never able to
