Australian singer-songwriter Julia Stone, one half of brother-sister duo Angus & Julia Stone, had recorded a cover of “Beds Are Burning” Midnight Oil that she planned to release as a one off release... instead - she decided to reach out to some friends and compile an album of them covering Australian artists - with the proceeds set to benefit the country's brush fire relief efforts.
Included on the album, due out March 5th on digital and in June on CD and vinyl (preorder HERE) are:
- The National covering INXS’ “Never Tear Us Apart”
- Kurt Vile covering Nick Cave’s “Stranger Than Kindness”
- Damien Rice covering Sia’s “Chandelier”
- Martha Wainwright covering Nick Cave’s “Ship Song”
- Dermot Kennedy covering Matt Corby’s “Resolution”
- Dope Lemon covering The Go-Betweens’ “Streets Of Your Town”
Proceeds from the album will benefit Firesticks, Landcare Australia, SEED, Emergency Leaders for Climate Action, WildArk and the NSW Rural Fire Service
Said Stone of the project:
“I received the most heartwarming replies from the biggest, busiest artists in the world. Most of these artists have toured here, have family here, friends here, have lived here or spent time here. Everyone has such great memories of this country and to see it in flames was breaking everyone’s hearts.”
So far the only release from the album we have is Stone's cover of Beds Are Burning:
